"Weathered Metal" with Inchies

Inchies often make a great basis for jewellery pieces and the weight of chipboard of the Tando Creative inchies makes for a sturdy finished piece.

In this tutorial I'll talk you through using an embossing folder to texture the inchies, achieving a weathered metal look with VerDay paint and patina solution and combining the three inchies in an "argyle" pattern for an interesting base that could make a pendant or a brooch.

There's a step-by-step included in the description area on YouTube if you'd like something as printed reference rather than just the video - just click on the little YouTube icon at the bottom of the video preview below to watch it over there rather than watching it embedded here if you'd like to access that written summary.

Hope you enjoy it!

Two Tutorials for you Today from Dana and Kaz

First of all, here is Dana's fabulous tutorial for her Speech Bubble Cupcakes:

I am excited to share this tutorial for Tando Creative's Third Birthday Celebration! When I think of birthdays, thoughts of cake, candles and fun colors come to mind. I recently melted some crayons for a project. As I was working, I noticed that a pool of swirled, melted wax was collected on my craft mat. I thought it would be fun to see if I could transfer the pattern onto a piece of chipboard for use as a fun and funky background, reminiscent of the colored drips of melted candle wax atop birthday cake candles. I am thrilled with the results!

Supplies:
Small Speech Bubbles
 Computer-Generated Sentiments
Crayons
Glue
Heat Gun
 Tweezers Craft Mat Paint (optional)
Shimmer Spray (optional)
 Rhinestones (optional)

Step One: Cover the edges of the speech bubbles with a coat of paint. Note: This step is optional. I like the finished look the painted edges give to my finished project.

Step Two: Remove the paper from the crayons and glue to a piece of heavy chipboard. Note: Gluing the crayons to a piece of chipboard helps hold the crayons in place while melting and provides a safe place to hold the crayons while keeping your hand protected from the heat during the melting process.

Step Three: Using a heat gun, melt the crayons onto a non-stick craft mat. Note: A hair dryer works well for gently melting the crayons, but will not provide the heat necessary to produce a large pool of melted wax needed for this project.

Step Four: Once there is a nice pool of melted crayon on the craft mat, quickly dip the speech bubbles into the hot melted crayons. Using tweezers carefully lift the chipboard from the melted crayons.

Step Five: Check that the entire piece of chipboard is covered with crayon. Any blank areas can be re-dipped into the melted crayon by applying more heat to the cooled pool of wax on the craft mat. Any raised areas of crayon on the chipboard can be smoothed out by applying heat to the chipboard with the heat gun. Be careful not to apply too much heat, or put the heat gun too close to the chipboard, or the crayons will melt off the chipboard.

Step Six: I like to add sparkle to my projects so I brushed on a layer of Shimmer Texture Spray. The Goosebumps gives the chipboard a glossy, sparkly finish. (This step is optional.)

Step Seven: Add the computer-generated sentiments and rhinestones to the speech bubbles. Attach a stick to each speech bubble, insert into cupcakes, and enjoy!

And now this is my tutorial (Kaz):

It would be very difficult for me to choose 3 of my favourite products from Tando, so I’m picking 3 groups of things.

1. The fact you get the inserts from the arches etc to create on.
2. Masks. I love them. I think you may have noticed that by now.
3. The Minis ranges. They are just perfect for accents on projects.

So I’ve used these 3 things to make a bookmark.

First off, take the small insert from the Triple Arched Layer Frame and add texture paste through the Sequin Waste Mask and leave it to dry. It doesn’t have to be perfect, ridges and gaps will add to the effect later. Clean the mask straight away so the paste doesn’t harden on it!

Once the paste is dry, paint both sides with acrylic paint, then paint just the raised bits a different colour. Paint the butterflies and hearts (not shown) as well.

Rub some oil pastel onto your finger and then rub your finger around the edge and over the edges of the raised bits.

Stamp a text stamp onto the Minis and rub some oil pastel around the edges.

Add some white dots around the tag and on the butterflies. Uni Posca pens work perfectly over the oil pastels.

Punch a hole in the top of the tag and attach to a metal bookmark, adding beads and ribbons until you are happy with the result.

Key Hanger Kit

KEY HANGER KIT by Karen

This kit comes with full instructions but here I am showing you how "I did it my way" hehe!
I used:
PaperArtsy Fresco Paint
Eco Green acrylics
Brilliance inks
Clear Embossing powder
A Crackle Stamp
Crackle Accents
Teensy buttons
Rough string
2xMini Birds
For the backboard:  I painted with the Fresco paints then stamped using a crackle stamp & brilliance ink in white.  I didn't cover the whole stamp in ink as I wanted it to look patchy.  Then I used a large corner flourish stamp and clear embossed it on the top corners.

For the houses:  Before I glued the bases together I painted with Fresco paints & stamped the crackle stamp as before but using complimentary Brilliance ink colours.  The rooves were run through my Big Shot with a script embossing folder then painted with Eco Green Tide Pool acrylic.  I then ran perfect medium over them & embossed with clear powder.  The doors & windows were painted to match the backboard and then had Crackle Accents added, with teensy buttons on the doors.

The birds were used instead of the large scrolls in the pack and were painted to match the houses then crackle accents applied.

To hang I twisted the string into a braid and knotted through the holes.

Happy Birthday Tando - Printers Tray

For my Tando Happy 3rd Birthday Piece I decided to make up this printers tray....

Its size means that you can make this up as a card for very special occassions...

To go into it I have used:-
From the Tando Range:- Mini Leaves 2
 Tando Mini's - Leaves 2
Mini Flowers
Tando Mini's - Flowers
 Mini Butterflies
 Tando Mini's - Butterflies
Mini Keys
 Tando Mini's - Keys

Further supplies needed:-
Glue
Acryllic paint
small frame
bling
distress inks and stains
embossing enamel
glossy accents/crackle glaze
white and black pens

When I start these frames I always decide which orientation to use once decided:-....
Adhere all the cut out pieces together and paint with acryllic paint and leave to one side to dry.
Take the back plate and paint with acryllic paint once dry  use a mask and distress stain to add defination to the base.  Once dry  adhere the frame to back plate using strong glue then clamp until completely dry.

Take the legs (stand) and colour using the distress stain....run thro' your die cutting machine with an emossing plate and dry emboss.  Rub back gently using a sanding block then add colour using a matching distress ink...

You will then have something like this:-

Using your Tando elements add colour using the medium of your choice - for this example I have coloured the butterflies, flowers and leaves using distress inks...these have then been outlined using black and white pens before having a layer of glossy accents added.
The keys have been enamelled using frantage embossing enamel.
The three has had pieces of bling attached.
The frame was a gold one in my stash that I have coloured using alcohol ink,  The happy birthday is a stamp which has been used on text paper coloured using distress ink.

Once prepped you should have this:-

Play with the elements until you are happy with the layout and then adhere using the adhesive of your choice - here I have used strong pva and silicone glue.

This is my finished result - would love to see any creations you come up with.

Any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

TFL, Carol

If friends were flowers..

 .....I'd pick you!

Hi, Gez here, and welcome to my first tutorial for Tando Creative.  Caro's fabulous project is below mine in this post so be sure to take a look.

I've had so much fun working with Tando's very versatile chipboard.

Here's a quick summary of the different steps I took towards my finished arch!

 Let's get started!

First of all I painted with white Gesso 3 of the bottles from the Grab Bag of Bottles and Jars

Next I took some spray ink and gave each bottle a couple of coats..

I also, picked up the left-over ink blobs and dabbed the bottle with kitchen roll..

Then, I ran a black pen around the edges of the bottles

Each bottle was then given a coating of clear Ranger crackle paint..

(The hard part.............. waiting for the paint to dry!!!)

The other two bottles were given much the same treatment as the first bottle..

Spray with ink, dab, coat with Crackle paint..

While the bottles were drying I set about painting a layer of white Gesso onto some of the flowers from the lovely Mini set..

.. more spraying with ink and mopping up ink blobs!
(my fingers were a lovely colour by now...)

While everything was drying I set about twisting some lengths of green wire around a thin crochet hook to make twirly stalks for the flowers and added gems to the flowers..

The wires were attached to the backs of the flowers using Glossy Accents

I then stamped some minature bottle images onto tissue paper using a permanent ink
(pemanent so it doesn't run when brushed over with glue)

The images were cut out, a layer of glue was applied to the bottle
then the tissue paper image was placed in the wet glue,
followed by a top layer to seal the image..

I also set about working on the background while everything was set aside to dry..

Tando have a BRAND NEW arch just released! I knew it would work perfectly as a 'window back drop' for the bottles and flowers. You can find it HERE

First, of all I gave the arch a complete coating of glue, I used gel medium as it'strong and spreads over large areas pretty well..

I chose some paper and glued it down firmly to the arch
and set about glueing the arch frames one by one to the back piece
again using gel medium..

slowly my arch frame came together, I do love this shape so much!

They glue dries clear, however, I did dab away any excess glue..

The top edge of the frame was then dabbed gently all over to give a textured effect with gold paint

~ da-da! ~

gorgeous!

Time to assemble my little scene!

The bottle in the middle was glued straight onto the background, the right hand bottle was mounted onto 3D foam pads and the left hand bottle was stuck to the edge of the arch frame..

close-up of the bottles & flowers..

Thank you for calling and taking the time to read through my tutorial,
I hope you will have a play sometime! Gez oxox
